New FireQual Level 5 Certificate in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment

The FireQual Level 5 Certificate in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment is accredited by Ofqual and is listed on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) at Level 5.

It is also available in Scotland as the FireQual Certificate in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment at SCQF Level 8, accredited by SQAA. The content, learning outcomes and assessments are equivalent across both versions, and both qualifications are fully recognised across the UK.

This qualification is designed for experienced practitioners who already hold intermediate-level competence and are working independently as Fire Risk Assessors in high-risk and complex environments. It is suitable for:

• Practising Fire Risk Assessors progressing to advanced-level competence.
• Senior consultants providing expert Fire Risk Assessments services for complex or high-risk premises.
• Fire safety professionals seeking recognition against advanced competencies set out in BS 8674:2025.
• Experienced individuals in enforcement, building control, or facilities management who are responsible for fire safety in high-risk settings.
• Professionals wishing to demonstrate advanced competence to clients, employers, and regulators.

On completion, candidates will be able to competently carry out advanced-level Fire Risk Assessments in buildings and premises categorised as high risk.

You will gain the skills and knowledge to: 

• Apply principles to analyse complex information when undertaking Fire Risk Assessments in high-risk premises.

• Interpret and meet all statutory obligations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

• Critically evaluate fire safety measures, including their requirements and limitations, to mitigate fire development, growth, and spread.

• Apply knowledge of building design, construction, and maintenance in relation to fire safety risks.

• Critically assess fire safety management systems in high-risk buildings to determine effectiveness and resilience.

• Credits: 30

• Total Qualification Time (TQT): 120 hours

• Guided Learning: 45 hours

• Directed Learning: 55 hours

• Assessment: 20 hours

• Assessment Method(s): Portfolio of evidence (case studies, reports, plans, observation, discussion)

• Age: 18+

Candidates must normally hold a Fire Risk Assessment qualification at Level 4 (Intermediate) or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.

They should also have strong literacy, numeracy, analytical, and professional reporting skills.

Successful completion provides progression to:

• Senior specialist roles in Fire Risk Assessment and consultancy.

• Wider leadership and advisory positions in fire safety and compliance.

• Potential alignment with professional registration and recognition frameworks.

This qualification is delivered through FireQual Approved Training Centres. Your chosen centre will guide you through the learning and assessment process, including costs, delivery models, and assessment requirements.
